Healthcare Services
At NEMS, we provide three core services to support Nottingham’s existing NHS institutions and the patients who use them:
Clinical Assessment And GP Out-of-Hours
If your local GP surgery is closed, and you’re experiencing health issues that need urgent attention, our Clinical Assessment Service and GP Out of Hours care will help you reach the medical care, advice, and treatment you need promptly and professionally.
Patients are mainly referred to us via NHS 111 where a symptom assessment determines that a patient needs to see a GP, but no local surgeries are practically accessible.
We provide our service to patients registered at 130 practices spread across three localities in Nottinghamshire, facilitating urgent care for a total population of roughly 1.1million patients. Following our clinical assessment on the telephone, if we need to see you for a face-to-face consultation you will be directed to one of three locations in Nottinghamshire
We record the details of each patient contact, assessment, and subsequent consultation in our clinical system, and transfer this information electronically to the patient’s GP practice by 08:00 the next working day. This means that whenever you come under our care, your own GP will be fully aware of any ongoing health issues and treatments, ensuring an efficient and high-quality standard of care from all NHS touchpoints.
While most local surgeries are open for 50 to 60 hours per week, we can care for your urgent needs for approximately 118 hours per week, ensuring access to medical care when you need it most.
Other Healthcare Services
In addition to its three core services, NEMS provides a number of other healthcare services to patients and healthcare professionals, including its Clinical Navigation and NEMS Pathways service.
We provide services to healthcare professionals such as conveyance avoidance for ambulance crews, an influenza prophylaxis and treatment service for care homes, and the Special Allocation Service for Nottinghamshire. In addition, we offer a non-clinical call handling service staffed by an experienced team of operational staff who take referral calls on behalf of district nurses, community midwives, commissioner response, as well as providing comfort calling services to patients in busy times.
